The Child Migrants Trust and the National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations, based in Great Britain, can direct researchers to resources that may help with tracing family members. Non-profit organisations offering assistance to former child migrants in Canada include Home Children Canada and the Ellen Foundation. Home Children Canada maintains a private database containing the names of child migrants who have contacted them. See Records Custodians/Research Resources for contact information.
Prior to 1892, Canada's Immigration Branch was under the jurisdiction of the Dept. of Agriculture. Some Barnardo's records are housed with this record group (National Archives of Canada RG17).
E.A. Struthers also served as Barnardo's agent in Winnipeg until 1918 when all records were moved to Toronto. Toronto operations ceased in 1960 & any records were then returned to Barnardo's, Ilford.
